Almost every home has one. The phone you replaced and shoved in a drawer. The one charging by your bed, doing nothing all night. Hardware that still works fine, spending most of its life as a black screen.
That bothered me enough to build something. DashDock turns an Android phone or tablet into an always-on dashboard the moment you plug it in — clock, weather, calendar, prices, all on one screen.

Plug it in. That is the setup.
There is effectively no setup. It detects charging and launches itself, switches to a full-screen dock mode with the system UI hidden, and keeps the display awake. Drop it on a stand and that spot becomes a smart display.
Long-press to edit. Drag widgets around, resize them, delete what you do not want. The grid is 4×2 landscape and 2×4 portrait, so a sensible layout exists whichever way the device sits.

Layouts are not one-size. Three profiles ship built in — work, investing, bedroom — and you can save your own arrangement as a profile and switch with one tap. Schedule and prices on the desk during the day; just a large clock by the bed at night.
Nothing leaves the device
Notes, layouts, and photos are stored on the device only. There is no account and no signup at all. The network is used for weather, price lookups, and ads. The app is free and ad-supported.
45 days from finished to launched
The app was done in early July. It launches today. What sat in between is the closed-testing requirement Google imposes on individual developer accounts.
You have to recruit testers and run a test period before you even qualify to apply for production. Then you wait for approval on top of that.
If you are a solo developer on the same path: starting the tester process after the app is finished is already too late. Recruit them while you are still wrapping up development. This gate pushed our launch back by a month and a half.
Production approval came through today, and we submitted for release in 177 countries the moment it did.
